The February installment of the CandleKids concert series features Akropolis Reed Quintet, an upbeat, award-winning group of reed instrument performers.
Touching on music from Debussy to Gershwin, the show will be both educational and interactive.
“It’s a fun, young group of reed players,” says Irina Kaplan Lande, the artistic director of the Candlelight Concert Society, the organization behind the series. “There will be instrument demonstrations, questions answered, musical games — all of that makes it fun for kids.”
The concert is geared toward younger ears — it’s best for kids ages 4 to 12 — but adults will also appreciate the quality of world-class performances, Lande says.

2. Make yummy, gummy Legos.Food and Lego lovers will get a kick out of this edible Lego-making workshop hosted by I’m The Chef, Too. Spend a morning with your little ones making homemade gummy building blocks that look and work just like real Legos, with one big difference: you can eat these blocks.
The hour-long session is action-packed and interactive, with lessons for parents and kids alike.
“We don’t just make food, we teach science in action, math and reading skills and build confidence and creativity,” said instructor Lisa Wallace, who teaches the classes in her Ellicott City home.

3. Become film fans.When it’s cold outside, snuggling indoors with a movie or two seems like a great idea. Howard County Public Library has you covered throughout February, with screenings of a variety of family friendly films at branches around the county.
From classics like “The Land Before Time” and “Pete’s Dragon” to newer releases like “Finding Dory,” the libraries are screening films that parents will enjoy and that are appropriate for kids of every age.
